GENEVA AIRPORT PARKING

All you need to know about the P51 parking lot at Geneva airport

parking p51 aeroport de geneve

Anyone who wants to park at Geneva airport for several days has undoubtedly heard of parking 51. The one of the three long-term parking lots at Geneva-Cointrin international airport, which offers lowest rates.

That said, there are cheaper alternatives, ideal for long-term parking among the private parking lots next to the airport.

P51 parking lot presentation

Like parking lot P26, this is the long-term parking of Geneva airport’s official parking lots. It is located at Route de l’Aéroport 1, 1215 Meyrin. Its GPS coordinates are latitude 46.2275 and longitude 6.1034.

Parking 51 aéroport Genève plan

Let’s take a look at the features of this long-term parking lot.

  • It is mostly covered but not entirely.
  • It is very large spread over 6 levels.
  • It is located 500 m from the main terminal.
  • It is open 24 hours a day but not all services are available all the time, as we’ll see later.
  • It offers online booking for some of the available spaces (305 spaces available for reservation out of a total of 1,100).
  • It offers several payment methods, which we’ll explain in more detail below.

P51 benefits

Disabled parking spaces

Two parking spaces are available on each floor, next to the elevators. These spaces cannot be reserved online..

Places reserved for electric vehicles

Parking spaces equipped with CEE16 A tri (European 16 amp three-phase socket) and T23 (16 amp single-phase socket) slow-charging electrical outlets. However, the same applies to spaces for people with reduced mobility, these places cannot be booked online.

Luggage carts

Luggage carts are available, which is all the more important as you’ll be making the journey on foot. To use them, you’ll need a token or coin.

Disadvantages of the P51

Limited vehicle height

If your vehicle is over 2 metres long you will not be able to access parking lot P51. In this case, you’ll have to go to level -3 of parking lot P26, where the maximum height allowed is 2m40. This area cannot be reserved.

No shuttle included

Unfortunately, there is no there is no shuttle service between the airport and the P51 parking lot for travellers who have brought their own vehicle. The journey is on foot (500 metres).

The only exception is for car-hire passengers, who benefit from a shuttle service. A 500-metre journey can be very long and tiring if you’re disabled, have children or a lot of luggage.

Complex payment terms

First of all, you can pay for your parking at three different locations:

  1. at automated checkouts.
  2. to output terminals.
  3. at the main parking lot cash desk (open from 07:00 to 22:30 only).

Then you have a choice of payment methods:

  • CHF (coins and banknotes).
  • Euros (tickets only).
  • Credit card. Contactless payment is possible with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay PostCard.
  • TWINT application (exit terminal only).

As you can see, it’s not easy. Not all cash registers are open 24 hours a day, and while you can use coins for Swiss francs, you can’t use euros, as only banknotes are allowed. As for the TWINT application, it can only be used as an exit terminal.

Online booking with its many subtleties

Zones open for booking are called ResaPark.

Places available on reservation

The airport’s official website states that :

ResaPark parking lots fill up fast.

Indeed, you can check the occupancy status of the parking lots in real time, and the fact is that we didn’t see any reservable spaces for parking lot P51. This can cause stress before you leave, as you’re not sure whether you’ll actually be able to park when you arrive.

Rates

Have you been able to reserve your place in P51 and think you’ve paid in full? Not exactly. The reservation fee is CHF 10, but the amount you pay at the time of reservation is only an estimate. and you’ll have to pay the actual amount when you leave the parking lot. As the airport website states:

Please note that the reservation does not constitute a deposit, and that the total cost of parking is not included. Parking fees must be paid on your return, directly at the airport cash desks.

Entry and exit times

Entry and exit periods are defined by time margins. Thus :

  • For entry, your reservation allows you to enter 2 hours before or 4 hours after the entry time you have selected. If you enter outside this period, the reservation will be automatically cancelled.
  • You can leave the parking lot 4 hours before or 4 hours after the exit time you have selected. Outside these periods, additional charges may apply for vehicle recovery (except in the case of flight delays or cancellations).

In a nutshell, whether you’re early or late, entering or leaving outside these time margins exposes you to a penalty.

However, some customers point out the advantages of parking:

  • Practice

Negative opinions

The reviews overlap with the disadvantages we have already mentioned, while adding some new ones:

  • it is often complete.
  • Its size makes it difficult to find your way around.
  • It is not suitable for large vehicles.
  • It is considered quite expensive.
  • The online booking rates are unclear.

So now’s the time to go into detail about pricing.

What are the P51 parking rates?

It’s a fact that P51 is more affordable than other official long-stay parking lots at the airport, such as P1 or P20.

P1 and P20
